Gossamer Superconductivity in Strongly Correlated Systems

Gutzwiller variational method is applied to study a modified Hubbard model in two dimension to examine the possible Gossamer superconductivity, where the superfluidity is very tiny. The ground state at half filled electron density is found to be a Gossamer superconductor for small intra-site Coulomb repulsion U and an antiferromagentic Mott insulator for large U, separated by a first order transition. The possible relevance to the layered organic superconductors will be discussed. Part of this work was in collaboration with J. Y. Gan, Y. Chen, and Z. B. Su.
