Professor Thomas Maurice Rice

Maurice Rice was born in Ireland. He received Ph.D. at Cambridge University in 60's, and joined W. Kohn at University of California, San Diego as a Postdoc. He then joined the theory group in Bell Laboratories in the U.S., and later became the group leader. Maurice Rice took a move to ETH-Zurich in early of 80's as a Professor in Institute of Theoretical Physics.

Professor Rice is a member of the US National Academic Sciences. He was awarded Hewlett Parkard Prize for European Solid State Physics, and Bardeen Prize for Theory in Superconductivity. Professor Rice's main interest has been in the theory of strongly correlated electron systems. He has hundred's of publications and has given numerous invited lectures in international conferences. Professor Rice has educated about 60 Ph.D. students and postdoctors is the last two decades.

　

T. Maurice Rice教授于1964年获英国剑桥大学博士学位，随后在美国加尼佛尼亚大学圣地亚哥分校（USCD）担任研究助理，1966年加入美国贝尔实验室，不久后担任小组负责人。1981年赴瑞士苏黎世联邦理工大学，任理论物理教授。

T. Maurice Rice教授是美国科学院院士，英国皇家学会院士。他主要研究领域涉及强关联电子系统等诸多方面。多年来在理论固体物理，半导体有机导体，重费米子材料和高温超导体方面做出了世界公认的成就。T. Maurice Rice教授已发表了几百篇高水平论文，在国际会议上作了大量邀请报告。由于他的成就，他获得了多项国际奖励，最重要的，如2000年由于超导理论方面的卓越贡献获美国物理学会的颁发的John Bardeen奖，1998年由于在固体物理领域的杰出成就获Hewlett-packard 欧洲物理奖。
