  • There have been 138 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering among the alumnae and alumni of Zhejiang University.
  • Zhejiang University has six campuses, namely Yuquan, Xixi, Huajiachi, Hubin, Zhijiang, and Zijingang, occupying a total area of 533 hectares.
  • At present, the total number of full time students has reached over 43,000 including 25,000 undergraduates, 11,000 postgraduates working for master's degrees and 6,000 Ph.D. candidates. Among its staff members, there are over 1,100 full professors and 2,300 associate professors.
  • The academic studies cover literature, history, education, science, economics, law, management, engineering, agriculture and medicine. Zhejiang University ranks stably in the top five among China¡¯s universities.
  • Physics Department has teaching and administrative staffs of more than 140, including 3 academicians of Chinese Academy of Science, about 40 professors, and 40 associate professors respectively. There are also several Guangbiao distinguished professors from outside China. There are totally 600 students, including 320 undergraduates and 250 graduates for MD and Ph.D. respectively.
  • Physics Department consists of five research institutions: Zhejiang Institute of Modern Physics (directed by Professor T.D. Lee, Nobel Prize Laureate), Institute for Condensed Matter Physics, Institute of Optics, Institute of Applied Physics, and Institute for Fusion Theory and Simulation. The main research areas include quantum field theory and string theory; particle and nuclear physics; statistical and computational physics; quantum informations and quantum computations; strongly correlated electron systems (theory and experiments); mesoscopic and nano-physics; surface and interface-structure materials; soft condensed matter physics; atom and molecular physics; laser physics and quantum optics; nonlinear and plasma physics; and the cross disciplines of science like bio- and medical physics.
